Dog Friendly Humboldt

Humboldt is home to dog lovers of all types. Many of our beaches, forests, and mountains invite responsible dog owners to explore with their favorite pups alongside! Please use your best judgement with off-leash sites. Although we are a more remote area, there are other dogs you may encounter. And remember that these shores are wild so it's a good idea to keep an eye on the ocean conditions.

Clam Beach

Dogs are allowed off leash here and with the shallow sandbar it is a perfect chance to play in the shallow water on a calm ocean day. This is a long flat sandy beach that gives plenty of room to run for a frisbee or catch.

Samoa Dunes

Located at the mouth of Humboldt Bay, this is a great spot to walk in the sand dunes to the beach with your pup off leash. There's a good chance you will see surfers, boaters, or 4 wheel drive enthusiasts. There have been several Orca sightings from here the last few years!

Trinidad State Beach

This beach is located next to the picture perfect town of Trinidad. Dogs are welcome on leash as you enjoy views of the Pacific. Trinidad is such a cute spot you'll definitely want to walk through the downtown area.

Arcata Community Forest

The Arcata redwood forest is a beautiful and delicate ecosystem. With this in mind, there are more durable trails that allow dogs on leash. This trail system offers miles of hiking, biking, and running. Stop by the City of Arcata for a trail map or download one on their website here.

Patricks Point State Park

This park located on a bluff next to the ocean that offers breathtaking views of the Pacific. Dogs are allowed on leash at campground and day use areas.
